Sunny Brisk Days

The weekend was sunny but brisk.
Minnehaha & Hiawatha looked concerned about the conditions of the park.

At Dodge Nature center I saw many birds, some deer and almost no people.

Happy New Year 2010

Over the Holiday weeks snow, then rain, then snow and finally deep freeze.
Last week there was a good day for snowshoeing.

One day this week I found out that there was over and hour and a half wait to get my oil changed.
I decided to use the time to explore a suburban park and hiking path.
Beautiful but a little disconcerting to run into gas pipes and high power lines.
I never knew they make a noise.
I chose to ignore them and to enjoy the falling snow.

Below is a street called "Magestic Lane". Kind of sad.....

On a walk to Minnehaha park today I could only take a few photos.
Since it was below zero my hands got too cold to take any more than that.
But still a very special place.

Frost.

We knew it was going to happen eventually,
nonetheless it was a bit of a shock.

More Moments in the Garden

The Garden

It seems that some, maybe most, of the best moments are not able to be caught on camera.
This week I needed a break from some business I was doing at home so biked to my favorite garden near Minnehaha Falls. It is a special place for me. It has a different kind of beauty for each season. The late summer mood of the garden is one of excess along with a hint of the end of the growing season. The plants are all overgrown and some are a bit brown but they are still lovely. Soon the park gardener will be removing the annuals. I will be sorry to see them go.
But this visit was wonderful. The garden was full of hummingbirds. They were everywhere. Because they were resting longer than usual I could get a close look at them. They were making little chirps something I have not heard before. A couple seemed to be putting a lot of energy into fighting.
It was a nice respite from my work and a chance to experience something that seems rare.

the garden

I have never developed a taste for acorn squash
However this summer I have been so enthralled with their growth in my garden
that I may need to try them again.
